worth the purchase for newbies

i have never been an artist and don't have a lot of ability. i do; however, have the desire and the images in my head. this book really gave me the tool/skills/strategies necessary to get me going. i actually like the painting that i have completed. it looks better than i expected and i learned from the book to make it that way. as beginner as i am, i already feel i am past this book and ready for the next lesson. hmmm! i guess i'll buy something else.

Pretty thorough

I thought this book was very good, especially for the beginner. It went through palette, color mixing, grounds, additives, and content. For the more experienced painter, I thought it made a good reference and refresher. It also had several artists who contributed their examples. This book is well illustrated with reference photos and more.

Great Designs, Really Well Done and Playful - Loved it! AAA+++

My daughter had me on a buying spree at B&N and since there was a great sale, I picked up a few books for her and my son. This was there, and although we both love our dog and really liked the book, we were overloaded at the time and had to keep this one on our plate for next time.
We really liked the dog designs and they were fun and playful, really well done!

I noticed it was a really well done book with quality pages and was very nice. Even though the pages were very good, I would still recommend using a safety sheet underneath, if you're going to be using markers. She uses mostly pencils and the sheets are excellent for that.

Some of the pictures, like the cover picture were very good. However, some looked very cartoon-like with large Powerpuff girl eyes and other strange features that make the adult coloring book feel more like a highlight's magazine.

Very nice coloring book

This is a perfect coloring book on several levels.1. If you are a dog lover or enthusiast.2. If you have artistic tendencies. 3. If you just like to color and make beautiful pictures. I could go on and on but I believe I made my point. This coloring book is well made with wonderful pictures and very nice paper. I would suggest if you decide to use markers, to put a protective sheet under your work in case it might bleed through. Colored pencils work really well with these pictures, too.

About the Author
Steve Crist is the photography editor for TASCHEN, where he recently produced Marilyn by Andre de Dienes and Steve McQueen by William Claxton. He is currently working with Hugh Hefner on Hugh Hefner's Playboy, as well as on books with famed writer Hunter S. Thompson and on William Claxton's forthcoming Jazz opus Jazztife. A California native, Steve is based at the TASCHEN America offices in Los Angeles. Barbara Hitchcock is the director of cultural affairs for the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham, Massachusetts. She acquires fine art photographs for Polaroid and is responsible for managing its traveling exhibitions and multi-million dollar art collections. She has been the curator of several national exhibitions and currently serves on the Photography Collection Committee of Harvard University Art Museums, Cambridge.

One of the BEST photo compilations ever!!!

My dad bought a Polaroid Land Camera (of the peel-apart type) before I was born... to take pictures of his chubby firstborn (that would be me, BTW).

Ever since, the sharp, colorful and amazingly stable little prints became part of our family's memory. My love for pictures was definitely boosted by the instant gratification offered by an SX-70 camera, which I still own and use after 25+ years, as well as a brand new Jobpro 600.

"The Polaroid Book" is a must for any hardcore Polaroid fan. Lotsa pictures, beautifully printed, with absolute respect for the authors' vision (Ansel Adams, Joyce Tenneson and Bill Allard, to mention only three of them). Nevertheless, the book's greatest virtue is to prove, without any doubt, that beautiful and creative work can be achieved with the simplest tools and the sheer power of imagination.

Polaroid is still alive and well, and this book is the best supporting evidence. Now, I'll just lay back and wait for that new new-old stock Polaroid Nightcam that I bought on the company's website. Let's see what that 600 film-munching baby can do.

A delightful, detailed guide

Visual eye candy compiled by Steve Crist from the archives of the "Polaroid Collections of Photography" are presented in The Polaroid Book, a delightful display highly recommended for photography collections at the college and public library levels. Most color and some duotone shots are presented one to a page for maximum impact. The artist index and polaroid model styles are in the back, so as not to detract from the image impacts. A delightful, detailed guide to what the camera can do at its best.

What a SEXY book!!!

WOW... words can't even begin to describe how much I love this book! It's about time they released a book like this! And the wrapper of this book is genius! It looks like a gigantic box of Polaroid film... I didn't even want to remove the cover at first... I fondled it for awhile and then I slowly peeled it off and curled up on the couch for an hour or two and looked at all the pretty pictures.

This book is highly recommended for any Polaroid enthusiast! And if you want to see some great 'roids on the net- check out Polanoid.net!

I honestly haven't made it through the the entire book yet but SO HELPFUL AND TOTALLY RECOMMENDED. My sister told me to read it and it has really helped my husband and I understand each other a LOT better. It's such a good thing to read wth your spouse and opens up so many much needed discussions. Serious props to this woman for writing this.

Very insightful. I had a therapist recommend this to me as a single adult, and it has been a key in overcoming some barriers. I liked the respectful dialogue, and tools to apply. I would recommend this book as a must read for husband and wives, engaged couples, and any woman looking to find peace and understanding in her divine nature as a woman.

Great book. Wish I had read it before getting married 25 years ago. In the Christian Society books on intimacy are so vague that they are practically useless, so you get ones outside of beliefs that are so descriptive that they too are useless. This book is just the perfect combination of all. Going to share it with my kids who are marrying age.
