When they throw a baseball through his window, all he wants is the money to fix it, but then he meets Meg. She's not like the women he's used to, but something about her stands out. It doesn't take long for him to realize she reminds him of something that he'd rather forget. Still, Train finds himself drawn to her, even though it's the last thing he’s looking for.
Meg isn't sure that what they have could ever work. Train isn’t a man who likes change; her life is in near-constant flux. Train puts a high premium on trust; Meg has dark secrets in her past. The pull of their need for each other is strong, but it will need to be very powerful to overcome the challenges before them.

Best of the series

This is by far my favorite book in the "Nightshade" series. I strongly recommend reading them in order, it really enhances Train's transformation from a player to a deeply committed man. Train has been my favorite character throughout all the books. In the first one, he is the only person to call out Amelia constantly (which I felt was needed). In this book, Train meets his neighbor, Meg. They initially are just hookups. But as he gets to know her and her nephews (who live with her), he falls in love with them. It is a great transformation!
I do have a few critiques of the book. I would have liked to see more of Train and Meg getting to know each other and fall in love. Much of the book is about Nightshade and their issues. Pretty much we get to see Train and Meg hook up, hook up again, and then Bam! They are in love and committed. It felt like we were missing something. Also, in previous books, Train is portrayed as near-genius. I didn't really pick up on that in this book. I do feel like details were missing. Train has a scar on his chest. It is referred to several times and he actually leaves when Meg touches it. Yet we are never told what caused it and why he has such a strong reaction. It is like the author forgot about it. His tree tattoo isn't really explained, either. I read between the lines on its meaning. But I'm not 100% sure on it. And Danny dying really felt unnecessary. I didn't care for him as a character, or Amelia, but he didn't need to die. And I didn't understand why Meg was so secretive about what happened with Carlos. She did not have a choice in the matter and I felt she should have been up front with Train from the beginning.
I rated this 5 stars as I absolutely love Train and loved him from the 1st book. I hope to read a lot more about he and Meg in future books!

Love this series

I have read all of the books in this series and love the author’s writing style. The author has given us some rich characters and beautiful love stories with a lot of grit. Danny and Amelia in book 1 and Buster/Caroline in book 2. In book 3 we get Train and Meg and the story does not disappoint. I will say, however, that Train totally surprised me because after his previous wild behavior I didn’t expect such an affectionate, sweet man who strongly loves and supports those who need him. He wasn’t looking for love when he found Meg and her two nephews, but he found it and became a hero. Train takes Meg’s nephews and sees the bad things that abusive parents can leave behind because he suffered also from not being loved. He supports Meg in her endeavor to get back custody of her nephews and it was touching how the big bad guy falls hard for these young boys in need of a man to love them and guide them. I think Train is now my favorite character of this series.
Of course the club had more troubles and more fighting. There’s some gritty violence between the good guys and the bad guys along with some club in-fighting. We say good bye to some of the people we have come to love in the series but most all of them continue to walk into the sunset with a HEA.
I hope that we can look forward to more books by this author in the near future. Love her gritty, real life writing style.

I will say that this had a few huge shockers I did not see coming at all

Joseph "Train" Grimes has never done relationships, he has sweetbutts and other women to satisfy any needs he has. Now that the club has burned to the ground, Train finds himself living in a house of the the first time alone. Train had always lived above the bar/club and not he is enjoying the quiet. That is when the hellions across the street are quiet. After yet another incident with them ending in a broken window, he finally meets what he assumes is their mom Meg Castle. Train can't deny he finds her attractive and when he realizes she is actually the aunt to the hellions he makes a move.

What starts off as no strings attached loving ends up building into something more. Train isn't sure what to do in the way of relationship with Meg but he knows he doesn't want to lose her. Meg puts all her trust in Train even with her life a turbulent mess but there is one thing about Meg that Train doesn't know and it could threaten everything.

Excellent third book in the series. I will say that this had a few huge shockers I did not see coming at all. Loved Meg and Train, he is a bit of a jerk at times but with Meg he is incredibly sweet. Was looking forward to this one and not disappointed at all.

About the Author

Michael New is the author of Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Implementation Guide. In addition to implementing and maintaining Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control in numerous independent consulting assignments, Michael took on many Grid Control responsibilities when working for Oracle Consulting. He developed and taught an Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control “Deep Dive” class offered internally to fellow Oracle consultants twice per quarter. Michael was one of five core members of the GRID Center of Expertise (COE) run by Oracle North American Consulting (NAC).

Edward Whalen has written several books for Oracle Press, including Oracle VM Implementation and Administration Guide. He has taught classes on Grid Control and has deployed the product in a number of different application environments.

Matthew Burke is director of a group focusing on remote database administration: implementation, monitoring, backup and recovery, tuning, and high availability (Implicit Technical Solutions, Remote Management Services: http://www.implicit-its.com). The group is currently servicing the needs of numerous clients in both domestic and international locations. He is recognized within the firm as a technical leader in the areas of Real Application Clusters, Parallel Query, and Replication. Matthew Burke has over two decades of Oracle database administration and development experience. A must have book for Oracle Cloud Control 12c

Having attended Mike's GC 10g deep dive training classes to fellow Oracle Consultants, while working with Oracle Consulting, I was impressed by the way how the author structures and presents the complex matter of deploying OGC 10g in major real life projects in a logical and systematic way. This was a compelling enough reason for me to purchase the first Mike's book `Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Implementation Guide'. The book was a crystal clear summary of Mike's experience on a dozen of GC10g real life deployment projects and training deep dive classes delving into the inner working and deployments of the GC product. It goes without saying that the first book raised the bar of expectations from a book on a complex product such as Oracle Grid Control 10g and his successor Oracle Cloud Control 12c.

Few years later, once Oracle Corp. released Oracle Cloud Control 12c a lot of improvement was introduced to the product and the complexity and new features and functionalities of the product were overwhelming. That is where, after already having a quite high expectations for a GC/CC book, I purchased the `Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Deep Dive' book. Mike and his co- authors in their book brilliantly managed to present the new concepts, architecture,new features and functionality of the product while explaining in a systematic and methodological manner and delving into inner workings of the installation, configuration, support and maintenance and real life's deployment scenarios of the product and usage of the various product features and functionalities. The new `Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Deep Dive' book is NOT another re-write of the official Oracle Cloud control documentation or an illustration of how to follow the documentation in order to have a OCC12c running but rather a well structured deep dive into the complexity of the product for a real life deployment using the new product functionality. The book is all you need to get an insight into OCC 12c complex real life deployment no matter whether you are new to OGC/OCC product family or you have a previous OGC experience.

The 1st part of the book familiarizes the reader with the OCC 12c concepts, helps to assess the readers' needs of OCC12c deployments , plans the deployment and thoroughly examines the installation, configuration, patching, upgrading and deployment options and describes the subsequent OCC12c post installation maintenance, support and performance tuning tasks, processes and methodology.

The 2nd part of the book focuses on leveraging the rich OCC 12c functionality for managing the cloud and the pertaining components such as databases, systems, storage, infrastructure, middleware to name a few. The book emphasizes on the Oracle methodology and best practices for managing targets suggested by the product functionality.

The 3rd part delves into the Life Cycle Management packs to handle monitoring, change management, patching, configuration management, and compliance management to name a few. The 3rd part covers in detail the virtualization plug-ins essential for managing the cloud.

All in all, I am pleasantly surprised and impressed by the quality of the Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Deep Dive' book content, structure and narrative logical flow. The new book achieves a successful blend of the overall picture while diving deep into the implementation and deployment details and how they fit into the big picture.

Not for serious geometry students

I only own a copy of the first edition (1990), but unless adding a new author (Brown) or drastically changing the text has greatly improved anything, the book doesn't try for much more than its title indicates. Like many other college introductory geometry texts, this isn't much more than high-school-level geometry without all the colorful pictures and stories that are supposed to make the topic fun and show the application of geometry to our lives (making this book about a third the size of most high school texts).

This book is not bad, and is probably fine for the student who just needs a basic understanding of Euclidean plane geometry (with chapters on solid and analytical geometry, and trig). Many of the theorems are proved (two-column proofs). The exercises are more into reinforcing the chapter contents (solving numerical problems and showing concept understanding) than in exploring new material and applications.

For authors that introduce a more rigorous approach, and show how beautiful geometry can be; try Coxeter and Posamentier.

Not enough

I wasn't sure whether to award two stars or three. It's not a "complete reference," as it advertises itself to be -- though the 550 pages had me fooled. Too much white space and the diagrams gobble up space. The descriptions are the bare minimum -- no real thought and analysis has gone into the book. One might learn something from the lab exercises. So why three stars? As far as I know, there's no other book out on Informatica. And it's not expensive as books go these days.

Book is good for beginners and fresher

I wouldn't say that this book is a complete reference for Informatica. But it does have very good descriptions of the mainline features. The lab that is included is passable but I wouldn't say it was as nitty gritty as it should be for a complete reference. More like here is a high level overview, good luck in the real world. Buy this book if you don't know where to start. If you have more than 2 years of experience you won't find anything in here that a google search can't find.

Only book on Amazon that covers Informatica. I purchased this book some time ago after starting a new position as an ETL Developer, and it has been priceless thus far. This book, combined with some formal training from the Informatica website, will provide you with all the basic Informatica knowledge needed to learn the software. A+, would advise others to purchase this item.

Great book, until you get to page 31 where ...

Great book, until you get to page 31 where you start to write the debugger code.

The code is a disaster. It is unclearly written, with a mixture of typos and lines shouldn't be there. If you type in the code as written, it does not work. There were some "updates" added to correct some issues, but other unclear/incorrect parts are not in the updates. If the code doesn't work as-written, it is impossible to tell if I'm entering the code wrong or if the problem is the way the code is written in the book.

In short, it's a great 31 pages but after that the book is useless. If one is already an expert in Python and C, then they can possibly know enough to correct the coding errors but the reason I bought the book was to gain experience with Python. Is it that hard to at least make sure the code works?

I wouldn't have an issue with typographical errors, but the code falling part as early as page 31 is inexcusable.

Very, very disappointed with not only this book but No Starch Press.

Great content ... terrible code in Chapter 3

I purchased this book as an attempt to learn more about debugging and hacking using Python.

The content itself is good. It's well organized and very clear, even for someone like me who is a self-taught programmer with ~1 year of Python experience. Perusing Chapters 2 and 3 should bring anyone up to speed on debuggers. The remaining chapters do a nice job of explaining various Python tools to use in hacking and reverse engineering.

Unfortunately, the code fragments in Chapter 3 (where you build your own debugger in Python) could best be described as a disaster. I expect a programming book's code to run without extensive tweaks. I don't need it to be the most Pythonic code in the world ... just generate the expected results. Given the importance of Chapter 3 to your understanding of a good portion of the book, these errors were a killer.

Given that the code required extensive fixes to run as intended, the errata (now on No Starch Press's website) was delayed by at least a year from publishing, and there was no forum on No Starch Press's website to pass errata around in the meantime, the book loses 2 stars.

The lesson: if you're going to publish a programming book, get the code right. Absent the ability to do so, at least support your book's readers in working around the issues.

Edit: Sorry, wanted to point out one more thing. For Chapter 3, the code on the website's source files don't always match the code walked through in the book, even on parts of the code that are fully functioning. Your best bet is to start with the code on the website and debug that.

Excellent book, incorrectly titled

This is a fantastic book with excellent content, and gave me a huge boost forward in a number of tasks. To be walked through hooking a browser fills you with confidence that any time you need to achieve such a task - reversing, debugging, hooking, you'll know where to start.

The key problem with this book, as has been mentioned already, is it's coverage. With at title such as "Grey Hat Python", you simple could not omit tools/frameworks such as Scapy.

If it were titled, and marketed as "Windows reversing and binary vulnerability analysis using python", we would've known what to expect, and would be 5-star

PETER VINCENT PRY, formerly with the CIA, is currently a professional military advisor to the U.S. House of Representatives on national security issues./e In an award honoring his years of service, the CIA stated: A noted expert in his field, Dr. Pry conducted groundbreaking research that illuminated one of the most important issues of our time, the U.S.-Soviet nuclear competition. On the vanguard of strategic intelligence analysis during the Cold War, he developed much of what the U.S. government knows about Soviet planning for nuclear war, including Soviet views of the character of war, perceptions of U.S. intentions, assessment of the nuclear balance, and operational plans. In the post-Cold War period, his work has been central to the U.S. government's understanding of evolving Russian threat perceptions and military doctrine, and the construction of new paradigms for strategic warning and stability assessments. He lives in Annandale, Virginia.

Almost but not quite

This book by Dr. Pry serves as an important reminder that nuclear weapons are still a major problem for the forseeable future. The end of the Cold War has lulled many to sleep feeling that nuclear weapons, or the possibility of global thermonuclear war ended in 1991. This book reminds us that others see the world differerntly from ourselves. It raises the issue that if a major power feels insecure that is bad news for everyone. The strength of the book lies in its raising this nuclear debate once again. Some of the interpretations about Russian activites concerning nuclear weapons (third generation) border on the speculative and serve only to create a sense of panic that one associates with the 1980's Committeee for the Present Danger. However, even if one disagrees or is uneasy with some of the argument in Dr. Pry's book one is faced with the undeniable reality that nuclear weapons are still a major problem for international relations and the future of the planet. If this book serves to serve notice to the world to wake up and to rejoin the debate about this important topic then it has accomplished a great thing indeed.

An absolute must read!

It is a great pity that, unfortunately, it is to the choir that Peter Pry preaches. His current work, WAR SCARE, follows in the footsteps of his earlier works on the Israeli nuclear program and the strategic nuclear balance of the Cold War. All are meticulously researched and written. Those who don't want to hear the message won't read the book. However, those who yearn to know how dangererous the Cold War was, and how dangerous the current international environment is, will read the book.
WAR SCARE details how close the world came to nuclear annhilation in the early 1980s and over and over again well into the Clinton Administration. The details of WAR SCARE, when coupled with the findings of the Cox Committee's report on Communist Chinese nuclear espionage, lead one to seriously question who the Clinton Administration serves, the American people, or themselves, or, more ominously, someone else.
WAR SCARE ought to be in the required reading list of all American History/Government/Civics classes.

How to respond to the war threat

Yes, the atom has been split: And splitting atoms makes possible the building of great big bombs. Yet many remain in denial of these facts instead of taking measures to minimize risks. Peter Pry's book should convince us that the threat of nuclear assault is higher than ever: Russia now considers a nuclear first strike the preferred means of preempting a nuclear attack upon herself, but also an option to answer threats from conventional weapons: "The role of nuclear weapons today remains even more important than it was during the Cold War," Viktor Surikov, Director, Institute of Defense Studies, September 10, 1996. The projected losses from a nuclear exchange between Russia and the United States were published in the Journal of The American Civil Defense Association in December, 1996; 165,000,000 deaths for the United States, and for Russia, less than she absorbed in World War II. Russia has long considered nuclear war not only thinkable but winnable. Our inaction in the face of the threat makes their calculations more certain. Our lack of preparedness invites the very catastrophe we dread. Once we wake up to the "Russian point of view" as so thoroughly set out in Dr. Pry's book, two conclusions are obvious: First, the federal government has failed completely to discharge its Constitutional responsibility to "provide for the common defense," and second, if we are to protect ourselves and thereby increase our chances of survival and reduce the risk of a nuclear attack, we must begin on our own initiative. Several steps can be taken: 1. The completion in our own towns of the fallout shelter survey that was started in the 1960's will show where hundreds of millions of people can take shelter and survive. 2. Asking our local planning commissions to require shelter spaces in new construction will expand our inventory and reduce heating and cooling requirements for the buildings affected. 3. Urging our state legislatures to provide tax exemptions on shelters built into houses and businesses will encourage citizens to use their own capital to increase their own chances of survival, thereby making the "nuclear option" less attractive to the Russians (and to the Chinese, who already claim to hold 20% of our population hostage). Actively pursuing these objectives will help those in Congress to develop and deploy a strategic missle defense. Pry describes our lack of awareness of the increased hazards of nuclear war since the "end" of the Cold War as "the greatest intelligence failure of the missle age" (p. xvi), and reveals that "Moscow has raised the specter of nuclear war nearly a half dozen times since 1991" (p. xii). We should not wait until we see the blinding flash and feel the ground tremble to heed Pry's warnings that he has developed from unclassified and declassified sources.
